People visit New Mexico for a variety of reasons but  the diverse geology of the state will be an inevitable part of their experience here. The unique and varied mesas, mountains, volcanoes, rifts and plains cannot fail to evoke awe and wonder.  The geological formations of New Mexico are, for me, a source of constant wonder and inspiration. I love the abstract nature of the rock formations and their colors and patterns. One may have seen a particular mesa or cliff, but to really know what is there requires intense study and observation to capture the individual character and majesty of that scene on canvas. A painting of a New Mexico mountain or mesa will bring back the smells, sensations and sense of vastness experienced every time you view it.
